I had hoped personal pages like this one would no longer be needed here, but news articles and emails have pointed out that maybe one more is needed.
As a minister, I am constantly asked about the coming new millennium. Do I believe that Jesus will come then? Will the Great Tribulation start then? What should Christians do to prepare for it?
Most are shocked by my answer. I really have no idea why! What I am shocked at is the terrible things that are starting to happen because of it. David Koresh, Heaven's Gate, and many more, I'm afraid, will jump up to show just how ignorant most Christians are of their own scriptures. A cult called "The House of Yahweh" just announced that the world would end October 13, 2000. Great--here are more we have to worry about!
So--my answer to the above? I don't think so, probably not, and what they always should be doing.
HUH??? I don't think Jesus is coming? I didn't say that. I just don't think he will come January 1st, 2000.
Why? Two reasons:
1. Read the bible quote above. Now read it again. Got it? NOT EVEN JESUS KNOWS WHEN HE IS COMING! Isn't the 1990's great! Now Jesus can jump on the internet, do some surfing, and find out what He hasn't known for 2,000 years!!!
Sound ludicrous? It is. Further in Matthew 24, He says he will come when we least expect it. So, its a sure bet He won't come in the year 2000. Every Christian will be expecting Him then.
2. Who's Millennium are we speaking of? You know, our calendar is a recent thing--(created in 500 A.D.) and in the 1500's, it was corrected 11 days because it was off!!! Yes, for we who are living today, the year 2000 WILL be a new millennium. Now do yourself a favor---talk to a Jew.
OOOPS! now we have a problem! They are not expecting another millennium for about 250 years. To Jews, the year is 5760. You see, if all Biblical prophecy is to occur, doesn't anyone think that the Prophets would use the Jewish Calendar, rather than something that hadn't been created yet? Reason is sent reeling!
Not a Christian? Ok, now you have even a bigger problem! What calendar do you use? The Chinese, Aztec, Druid, Celtic, Sumarien, or any other---it does not matter. Ours is the ONLY calendar which is a NEW millennium in the year 2000. So now what?
But what about the prophecies? My answer is: whose? Nostrodamus (or any other spelling of the gentleman's name you wish) is now wayyyy off in his predictions. According to the Quatrains, we should be in the middle of W.W. III, but we aren't. The Biblical prophets are on the back burner, because most of theirs have been fulfilled, and those that aren't are answered in the quote above, by Jesus. We do not, and never will, know the time. Are we more knowledgable than Jesus?
The bottom line to all this is that if more Christians would stop
worrying about when Jesus will come and do what Christians ARE SUPPOSE
TO DO IN THE FIRST PLACE, THIS WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE.
In addition, IF WE ARE TRULY CHRISTIANS, AND ACTING AND BELIEVING
AND WORKING LIKE CHRISTIANS THEN IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER WHEN HE WILL COME!
Why? Because you WILL be ready--and you will go with Him.
